Located at the junction of the Otta and Gudbrandsdalslågen rivers, Otta is a small village en route between Oslo and Trondheim. It serves as a gateway for whitewater rafting on the Sjoa River and hiking adventures in Rondane National Park.
Experience all the thrill of riding the whitewater rapids on the Sjoa River, which is considered one of the best rafting rivers in Europe. There are tours tailored to both families and more experienced rafters, as well as combined rafting and river boarding adventures. The northern part of Gudbrandsdalen is also a popular canyoning destination due to its exhilarating rock scrambles and idyllic swimming holes.
Encompassing high alpine peaks and home to one of the oldest reindeer herds in Norway, Rondane National Park is a trekker’s paradise. Explore the beautiful valley of Langglupdalen and take a step back in time at the Jørundgard Medieval Centre before soaking up the views from the architecturally striking Sohlbergplassen.
Getting there
Otta is around three hours’ drive from Oslo Airport or four hours from Trondheim Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Buses travel throughout the region, although having your own vehicle offers greater freedom to explore.
