Don’t miss Museu del Traginer, which is dedicated to the use of mules, horses and oxen as means of transportation. It exhibits artefacts from some of the region’s most prominent muleteer trades, such as coopers, saddlers and tanners, as well as detailing the role of local veterinarians in maintaining the health of the animals. Antique carriages and carts are also on display.
One of Igualada’s most important historic buildings is the Basilica of Santa Maria, which was constructed in the 17th century in a combination of Gothic and Renaissance styles. It was converted into an indoor market during the Spanish Civil War under the guidance of the Catalan Modernista architect Cesar Martinell. On the northeastern outskirts of the town is the architecturally designed Igualada Cemetery.
