Dinner Plain is a great base for visiting the Alpine National Park, which boasts spectacular alpine landscapes, wild rivers and high plains. Go bushwalking beneath the towering snow gums and alpine ash trees or soak up the panoramic views from the highest altitude road in Victoria.
The landscapes at Dinner Plain change dramatically with the seasons, covered with snow daisies and billy button wildflowers during the spring. This is a great time to try your hand at fly fishing to catch trout, perch and Murray cod that inhabit the crystal-clear rivers and mountain lakes.
Hotham Alpine Resort is the main attraction for snow sports enthusiasts, offering some of the best skiing and snowboarding terrains in Australia. There are easy slopes for beginners and exhilarating challenges for experts, in addition to convenient lifts and plenty of cafes and restaurants on site.
Away from the snow, you can indulge at the Japanese-inspired Onsen Retreat and Spa or discover the local cattlemen history on a horseback riding adventure. Dinner Plain also lies near the Mount Hotham-Dinner Plain mountain biking trail, which takes you along a 24-kilometre-long undulating trail through the open plains.
Getting around Dinner Plain
Hotham Airport is 10 minutes’ drive from Dinner Plain. From Melbourne, it’s a spectacular five-hour drive along the Great Alpine Road, with regular bus connections also available.
