Discover the local culture at the Coronado Museum of History & Art, with exhibits detailing the Native American communities, naval personnel and beachgoers that have shaped Coronado. The museum also conducts guided walking tours of the town that include a visit to the house where Frank Baum wrote “The Wizard of Oz”.
The grand Hotel del Coronado is the most famous landmark in Coronado, with its brightly-coloured Victorian architecture dominating the oceanfront boulevard. This Heritage-listed hotel was built in 1888 and has hosted famous guests, such as Marilyn Monroe and Babe Ruth.
Want to explore Coronado on two wheels? Rent a bike and hit the Silver Strand Bikeway that extends from Coronado down to Imperial Beach. It hugs the waters of San Diego Bay, with yacht-filled marinas and idyllic stretches of sand where you can relax along the way.
Central Beach stretches along the west coast of Coronado and features fine white sands popular with families and local surfers. Leafy parks back the beach and are within a short stroll of the restaurants and retail shops along the main strip of Coronado.
Getting around Coronado
Coronado is 10 minutes’ drive from Downtown San Diego and connected by regular buses and ferries from the Broadway Pier. Coronado is small enough to explore on foot and there are plenty of designated cycling paths.
