Carson is a lively city in Los Angeles’ South Bay region that was the site of the Battle of Rancho Dominguez during the Mexican-American War. Today, Carson is a popular residential area and home to a campus of California State University, as well as a museum dedicated to printing.
Things to do in Carson
In the heart of Carson is the Jose Rizal Monument, which honours the national hero of the Philippines. Constructed from bronze, the monument rises to around two metres atop a granite base and forms part of the city’s International Sculpture Garden. The garden was designed as a walking history museum themed around global heroes of liberation, freedom and justice.
One of Carson’s most popular attractions is the International Printing Museum, which boasts one of the largest exhibitions of antique printing presses in the country. Get up close to a replica Gutenberg press and equipment from Ben Franklin’s years, as well as printers that would have been used by Mark Twain during his time as a printer’s apprentice. As a working museum, many of the printing presses are still in use and classes are offered on a regular basis.
Golfers can enjoy a round of golf at The Links at Victoria Golf Course, which was designed by William Bell and opened to players in 1966. In addition to a practice range, it features a well-stocked pro shop and a casual cafe. Adjacent to the golf course are the tennis courts, soccer pitch and indoor cycling track of the Dignity Health Sports Park and the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills.
