Backed by the rocky landscapes of the Macizo de Teno, Buenavista del Norte lies in the far north-west of Tenerife. It has been designated as a site of cultural interest due to its early Andalusian architecture reflecting a fusion of styles brought to the island by Spanish conquerors.
Things to do in Buenavista del Norte
Stroll the historic streets of Buenavista del Norte to admire its beautiful buildings, many of which date from the 16th and 17th centuries. Begin in Plaza de los Remedios with its whitewashed church, then wander between the traditional tiled houses to the historic public laundry sites on Calle el Chorro. On the western edge of town is the Canarian-style Hacienda de La Fuente and the charming Ermita de La Visitacion.
Sweeping views across the Atlantic Ocean are on offer from the clifftop greens and fairways of Buenavista Golf. Designed by the Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros, it features 18 holes, some of which give the impression you are hitting straight into the ocean. Along the northern edge of the golf course is the picturesque Sendero Las Salinas walking trail.
Rising atop the coastline to the north of town is the Faro de Buenavista, a modern lighthouse that was completed in 1990. It comprises two concrete towers, one with a spiral staircase leading to its 40-metre-high lantern room. Combine your visit to the lighthouse with a stop at the Charco del Rayo, a spectacular natural bridge surrounded by wave-fed pools.
