Things to do in Puerto del Rosario
From turtles and tropical fish to superheroes and pop art, Puerto del Rosario is covered with colourful street murals. Many of the city’s whitewashed walls are transformed into open-air works of art. You’ll find dozens of sculptures dotted across the city, including a series of larger-than-life snails along the waterfront promenade.
Our Lady of the Rosary Church features a simple yet elegant design. It dates back to the 19th century and houses a pair of bells imported from France. The church is set on a tree-lined square where you can buy snacks like “papas arrugadas” boiled potatoes topped with “mojo rojo” chilli sauce.
Spend the day on Playa Chica, a sheltered beach fringed by golden sand. Enjoy lunch at a beachside café and walk to the end of the pier to see a mounted skeleton of a beaked whale. To the south is Playa Blanca, an uncrowded stretch of sand with rolling waves. A breezy seafront promenade connects Playa Blanca with the city centre.
Visit the former home of famous Spanish novelist, Miguel de Unamuno. His home is reimagined as the Miguel de Unamuno House Museum and features exhibits on the life, legacy and works of the controversial author. Rooms are filled with antiques, including Unamuno’s wooden writing desk.
