Hugging the top of the Jandia Peninsula, Costa Calma is an idyllic resort town south of Fuerteventura. It’s one of the Canary Islands’ most famous water sports destinations and takes its name from the prevailing western winds that leave its coastline blissfully protected and calm.
Spend your days relaxing on stunning Sotavento Beach, which boasts crystal clear, shallow waters and a wide expanse of sand. It’s particularly renowned for its favourable kite surfing and windsurfing conditions, with several championship events held here throughout the year.
A short drive north-east of Costa Calma is the village of La Lajita, which is home to the Fuerteventura Botanical Garden and Oasis Wildlife. Learn about the island’s unique plant life before getting up close to animal species from across the globe. In addition to elephants, hippos and camels, the park is home to seals, snakes and birds of prey.
Getting there
Costa Calma is around an hour’s drive from Fuerteventura Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Ferries connect from Gran Canaria to Puerto del Rosario, which is also an hour away.
