The lively Al Nozha lively district is a convenient base for visiting Al Masjid Al Haram, one of the largest and most sacred mosques in the world. Enjoy easy access to a wide selection of cafes and restaurants as well as several museums, including one housed in a former royal palace.
Things to do in An Nuzhah
Al Masjid Al Haram towers over the city and is one of the largest mosques in the world. The enormous complex can accommodate one million worshippers and is anchored by the Holy Kaaba draped in jet-black cloth. The ancient shrine dates back to the 7th century and is the final destination for many Islamic pilgrimages.
The streets of Al Nozha are lined with cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Saudi dishes. Sit down for fragrant “ruz al bukhari” rice served with roast chicken and “jalamah” spiced lamb. Buttery “ma'amoul” cookies filled with figs, pistachios and walnuts make delicious snacks.
Learn about the fascinating history of Al Masjid Al Haram at the Exhibition of the Two Holy Mosques. Small but engaging, the museum features dozens of relics from both Al Masjid Al Haram and the ancient Prophet's Mosque in Medina. Some of the oldest relics date to the 13th century. The Makkah Museum occupies a former royal palace and features exhibits on archaeological finds, Islamic calligraphy and Saudi Arabian art.
Al Hukair Funland indoor amusement park is packed with family-friendly rides and attractions. Bounce on the trampolines, try your luck on the brightly-lit arcade games and take a spin on the ice skating rink.
Getting around An Nuzhah
Al Nozha is easy to get around on foot, while local buses and taxis are a good option for longer distances. The district is a 10-minute drive from Makkah Station and 15 minutes from Al Masjid Al Haram. King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah is a one-hour drive away.
