Things to do in Yeoksam-dong
Teheranno runs through Yeoksam-dong and is lined with some of the tallest and most expensive skyscrapers in Seoul. The thoroughfare is nicknamed “Teheranno Valley”, which is a nod to the huge number of tech companies based in the area.
Seonjeongneung is a green oasis in the heart of the city. The Joseon dynasty burial ground is dotted with royal tombs surrounded by rolling green lawns and forests. Walk around the site and visit the Seonneung tomb, the final resting place of a Joseon king who ruled in the 1400s. It’s guarded by life-size statues of soldiers and horses.
Walk east to explore the buzzing Gangnam-gu district. The ultra-modern neighbourhood is famous for shimmering skyscrapers and designer boutiques by brands like Chanel, Versace and Louis Vuitton. Dine at upscale restaurants, visit the cutting-edge Seoul Arts Centre and dance the night away at luxe nightclubs. Try cocktails made from soju, a local spirit made from distilled rice and grains.
From sleek restaurants to sizzling street food stalls, it’s easy to sate your appetite in Yeoksam-dong. Try local South Korean specialties like colourful “bibimbap” rice bowls topped with fermented kimchi, “bulgogi” marinated barbecue beef and “samgyetang” chicken soup. Wash down your meal with a cup of sweet ginseng wine.
Getting around Yeoksam-dong
Parts of Yeoksam-dong are pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot, while taxis are a fast and easy way to cover longer distances. Access Yeoksam-dong via several stations on Seoul Subway Line 2, including Yeoksam Station. The journey between Yeoksam-dong and the Seoul city centre takes around 30 minutes. Incheon International Airport is a one-hour drive away.
