Overlooking the Black Sea, Venus is a popular summer resort town in the far south-east of Romania. It encompasses a string of beaches, waterfront restaurants and family-friendly attractions while it’s also within easy access to protected forests and nature reserves.
Things to do in Venus
For a day at the beach, head to Plaja Venus where sun loungers and beach umbrellas are available for rent. To the north is the crescent-shaped Plaja Cap Aurora, while to the south is the popular Plaja Calipso. Rocky breakwaters divide each of the beaches and lively bars and restaurants are positioned behind.
If you’re travelling with kids, be sure to visit the Venus Amusement Park, which is packed with family-friendly rides and arcade games. Alternatively, make a day trip to the nearby Galaxy Water Park with its themed swimming pools and waterslides. Young children will love the water playground and fountains while parents can relax on one of the shaded sun beds.
A short drive north of Venus is the Pădurea Comorova, a protected tract of forest dominated by birches, poplars and oaks. It’s a scenic spot for a leisurely walk, with both picnic and barbecue facilities available. If you drive in the other direction from Venus, you’ll arrive at Pădurea Hagieni, a nature reserve that serves as a nesting site for several bird species. You spot robins and woodpeckers as well as flowering steppe peonies.
