Things to do in Beinan Township
Scenic trails wind through the Jhihben National Forest Recreation Area and immerse you in the natural beauty of Beinan Township. The Banyan Shaded Trail is lined with enormous trees and feels like a scene from Tomb Raider. Brave Man’s Trail will test your fitness with 900 steps leading up a steep slope. Look out for monkeys, birds and butterflies as you explore the park.
A short hiking trail winds through the forest and takes you to Baiyu Waterfall. The falls cascade down a rocky cliff and are surrounded by emerald-green foliage. You can dip your toes into the shallow pool at the base of the falls.
The Zhiben Hot Springs Area is dotted with spas and wellness centres where you can soak in the mineral-rich pools. Also known as Jhihben Hot Springs, the water is famous for its healing properties and will leave your skin feeling soft and rejuvenated.
Qingjue Temple boasts a serene setting at the foot of Longquan Mountain. As you approach the Buddhist temple, you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Step into the cavernous main hall and admire a 2.5-metre tall jade Buddha statue.
Lively Taitung City is a great base for exploring Beinan Township. Discover ancient Neolithic slate coffins at Beinan Cultural Park and admire centuries-old ceramics and jade carvings at the National Museum of Prehistory.
Getting around Beinan Township
Rental cars are an easy and affordable way to explore Beinan Township at your own pace. The township is serviced by Taitung Station and Shanli Station on the Taitung Line. Trains run between Taitung and Tainan in around five hours.
