If you’re travelling with kids, head to the Dynamikum Science Center, which is packed with hands-on and interactive exhibits. You can challenge your family members to see who can jump the highest and learn about the physics behind all of your favourite sports before flying down the slides that connect the two floors. On the second floor of the museum is a cafe where you can grab drinks and snacks.

Adjacent to the Dynamikum Science Center is Strecktal Park, a leafy green space that centres around a peaceful lake. Stretch your legs on the walking trails that lead through the park’s meadows or let the kids run loose in the adventure playground. Also within the park are a beach volleyball court and a skate park, plus a sun-dappled beer garden.

At the Forum Alte Post, you’ll find changing art exhibitions featuring both modern and contemporary works. A highlight of the permanent collection are paintings by the 19th-century artist Heinrich Bürkel and the founder of the Dada movement, Hugo Ball, both of whom were born in Pirmasens. Musical and theatrical performances are also regularly held here.
