Things to do in Pacifica
Rolling waves and gold-sand beaches make Pacifica a prime surfing destination. Rent a board and paddle out to the breakers or sign up for surf lessons. Crescent-shaped Pacifica State Beach is a short stroll from Downtown Pacifica and one of the best places to learn to surf. You can also swim, sunbathe and join beach yoga classes.
Mori Point is set within the Golden National Recreation Area and treats you to spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean. Hiking trails wind through the park and take you out to the bluff and through lush wetlands. Keep an eye out for rare species like the California red-legged frog.
Shelldance Orchid Gardens was laid out in the 1940s and is brimming with rainbow-coloured plants. Walk through the greenhouses and admire a variety of rare orchids, including species named after Pacifica and other nearby towns.
Enjoy a night of Californian culture at the Pacifica Arts Centre. Since the 1970s, the centre has been hosting music concerts, theatrical performances and comedy acts. It also moonlights as a venue for art exhibitions.
From authentic Italian delicatessens to Peruvian-inspired restaurants, you’ll find flavours for every palate in Pacifica. The region is famous for artichokes, which you can enjoy baked into sourdough, sprinkled on pizza and blended into soups.
Getting around Pacifica
Pacifica is compact and easy to get around on foot, though you’ll need a car to visit nearby beaches and explore San Mateo County at your own pace. The city is a 30-minute drive from Downtown San Francisco and 15 minutes from San Francisco International Airport.
