Things to do in Nydri
Nydri Beach is framed by forested hills and fringed by a mix of white sand, shingles and pebbles. Clean, crystalline water has won the beach Blue Flag status. Rent a sun lounger or relax at one of the open-air cafes overlooking the beach.
Enjoy a day of culture and history in Lefkada Town. The fortress of Agia Mavra guards the entrance to the island and dates back to the 14th century. Cross the saltwater moat to explore the ruins of the ancient fort, which is clad in emerald-green moss and lichen. The Archaeological Museum is set on the waterfront and charts the rich history of the island. Inside you can see Palaeolithic tools, Roman relics and centuries-old terracotta statues.
Day trips to Meganisi Island are one of the most popular activities in Nydri. Ferries whisk you to the postcard-perfect island, where you can spend the day swimming in turquoise bays. The village of Vathy is home to several fish taverns where you can enjoy local specialties like grilled octopus and deep-fried squid.
Venture into the mountainous interior to discover centuries-old villages surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. In nearby Rahi Village, you’ll find trails leading to tumbling waterfalls. Bicycle rentals are a fun and scenic way to explore the coastal paths. The route around Vlicho Bay is particularly beautiful and takes you past a picturesque, whitewashed church.
Getting around Nydri
Nydri is compact and easy to get around on foot. The village is a 20-minute drive from Lefkada and 4.5 hours from Athens. A narrow causeway connects Lefkada with the Greek mainland and Aktion International Airport is a 45-minute drive away.
