Encompassing part of Charles de Gaulle Airport, Le Mesnil-Amelot is a small commune on the northeastern outskirts of Paris. It’s home to a mixture of residential facilities such as schools and parks, as well as services supporting the operations of France’s biggest aviation hub.
Things to do in Le Mesnil-Amelot
Le Mesnil-Amelot is a convenient base for exploring the Parc Naturel Regional Oise - Pays de France, a sprawling green space traversed by a huge network of hiking trails. Its grasslands, moors and wetlands provide important habitats for native wildlife, such as badgers, foxes and roebuck. The presence of humans in the area throughout the centuries is reflected through historic churches, abbeys and châteaux.
Aviation enthusiasts can visit the Air France Museum, which traces the history of the airline back to its establishment in 1909. It occupies a historic building at Charles de Gaulle Airport where everything from vintage advertising posters to uniforms designed by Christian Dior is on display. You can get up close to scale models of Air France aircraft from different historical periods, as well as view old promotional films.
Also at Charles de Gaulle Airport is the Espace Musees, which hosts changing exhibitions from some of the leading museums in Paris. Located in the heart of Terminal 2E, it is the perfect place to spend some time while waiting for your flight. Each year, two new exhibitions are presented by some of France’s top curators on themes related to history, culture and art.
