Things to do in Saint-Denis
Basilica of Saint-Denis towers over the district and is one of the finest Gothic churches in Paris. It dates back to the 1100s and welcomes visitors with a soaring tower and beautiful rose windows. Featuring stunning multicoloured glass, the north window depicts the ancestors of Jesus Christ and the south window celebrates the creation of heaven and earth.
On the eastern fringe of Saint-Denis is Georges-Valbon State Park. The 160-hectare park is laced with scenic trails that take you past lakes, marshlands, woodlands and grassy meadows. Take a spin on the carousel and learn about honeybees at the apiary.
If you don’t want to face the crowds at the Louvre, consider the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire. This hidden gem occupies an ancient Carmelite cloister and features displays on French artists and poets. There’s also a fascinating archaeological gallery showcasing relics found around Basilica of Saint-Denis.
Tree-lined paths, clipped hedges and colourful flower beds make Parc de la Légion d'Honneur one of the most beautiful public gardens in Paris. Enjoy a picnic on the grass and stretch your legs on the woodland trails. In spring, the park hosts a fantastic tulip festival.
