Things to do in Lavarone
Sandy beaches and grassy sunbathing areas frame Lake Lavarone. It’s perched more than 1,000 metres above sea level and surrounded by lush forests and rugged mountains. Roll out your towel or rent a sun lounger from a waterfront lido. There’s plenty to keep you entertained on the water, including rowboat and pedalo rentals.
Visit Forte Belvedere and explore a World War I-era Austro-Hungarian stronghold. It’s built into the side of a mountain and features imposing stone walls and sweeping views over the surrounding countryside. The fort housed an engaging World War I museum with interactive exhibits and multimedia installations.
Rent a mountain bike and explore the famous 100-kilometre dei Forti. The scenic route follows a former World War I artery and takes you past a series of ruined forts and castles. Well-marked hiking trails make it easy to explore the beautiful Trentino countryside on foot.
Visit in winter and enjoy the family-friendly Lavarone Ski Resort. It’s set on the slopes of Alpe Cimbra and features more than 30 kilometres of groomed slopes framed by alpine forests. The highest runs start at 1,600 metres above sea level. Slow down the pace on cross-country ski trails or get your pulse racing on fat bike tracks.
Dine at rustic trattorias and enjoy specialties from the Trentino region. Enjoy wafer-thin “carne salada” beef, “speck” smoked pork and “schuttelbrot” flatbread flavoured with mountain herbs. Grilled “meraner wurst” hot dogs sold at streetside kiosks make excellent snacks.
Getting around Lavarone
Villages in Lavarone are compact and easy to get around on foot. Local buses are a fast and affordable way to travel between villages or rent a car to explore the Trentino region at your own pace. Lavarone is a two-hour drive from Venice and Venice Marco Polo Airport.
