Overlooking the Balearic Sea, La Pineda is a coastal resort west of Tarragona. In addition to its palm-lined beach, it’s renowned for its family-friendly water park and is on the doorstep of Spain’s most popular theme park at PortAventura.
Things to do in La Pineda
For a day on the sand, head to Playa de La Pineda, a Blue Flag beach that fronts the warm waters of the Balearic Sea. Backed by a palm-lined promenade and a children’s playground, it offers easy access to restaurants and cafes where you can dine throughout the day. If you’re visiting at Christmas time, don’t miss the professionally sculpted sandcastles of the Pessebre de sorra de La Pineda.
Travelling with kids? They’ll love cooling off at the Aquopolis Costa Dorada - La Pineda Salou, which is packed with swimming pools, water slides and play areas. You can brave the Kamikaze and Hurricane water slides, ride the Vulcan River or challenge yourself on the jungle-inspired Zip Line. Young kids can let loose at Turtle Adventure and Treasure Island or be inspired in the Funny Jungle.
A short drive inland from La Pineda is PortAventura Park, which is designed around themed areas inspired by the Mediterranean, Mexico, China and Polynesia. Be shot out of a volcano at the Tutuki Splash, step aboard the Kontiki pirate ship or experience the eight inversions of the Dragon Khan roller coaster. In addition to its thrilling rides, the theme park also has a toddler-friendly area dedicated to Sesame Street.
