Established in the 1970s on the site of a swamp, Empuriabrava is one of the largest residential marinas in the world. It comprises more than 40 kilometres of canals and sun-drenched beaches, making it a popular summer getaway destination on the Costa Brava.
Rent a boat to explore Empuriabrava’s waterways at your leisure, with luxury villas lining the canals, and keep an eye out for skydivers descending toward its lake. Nearby is the beautifully preserved medieval town of Castello d’Empuries with its 11th-century Convent of Santa Clara and Gothic-style Church of Santa Maria.
Stretching the length of the town is Platja de Empuriabrava, a wide, sandy beach with magnificent views across the Bay of Roses. You can swim in the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea, play beach volleyball or dine on freshly caught seafood at one of the restaurants lining the promenade.
Getting there
Empuriabrava is around a one-hour drive from Girona and Girona–Costa Brava Airport, which has seasonal flights to destinations across Europe. The much larger Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport is just under two hours away. Regular buses connect to Empuriabrava and the beachfront area is ideally explored on foot.
