Things to do in La Motte
La Motte is set in the heart of the world-famous AOC Côtes de Provence winemaking region. Fertile soil and a sunny climate give the wine its unique terroir. Tour local vineyards and learn about the long history of winemaking in the region. Many estates grow Tibouren, a traditional grape used to make full-bodied rosés.
Admire the gold-plated wooden altarpiece inside Eglise Saint-Victor. The church dates to the 11th century and was once a Romanesque priory. It’s beautifully restored and features a baptismal font set beneath an elaborate mural painted in the 19th century.
Follow the scenic trail through the vineyards to Saut du Capelan waterfall. The falls cascade more than 20 metres down a rocky cliff and into an emerald-green natural pool. Pack supplies and enjoy a picnic by the waterfall before heading back to the village. The return trip takes around one hour on foot.
Shop for fruit, vegetables, baked goods, cheese, cured meats and other delicacies at the weekly market. Held every Friday, the market attracts vendors from across Provence. Depending on the season, you’ll see baskets of ruby-red strawberries, plump figs, glossy heirloom tomatoes and bunches of Provence herbs.
