Translating as “Beautiful Place on the Sea”, Beaulieu-sur-Mer is a seaside resort between Nice and Monaco. It was established as a port by the Ligurians before being occupied by the Romans and emerged as a French Riviera holiday destination in the late 19th century.
Dominating the waterfront of Beaulieu-sur-Mer is Villa Kerylos, an early 20th-century replica of a classical Greek villa created by the French archaeologist Theodore Reinach. Its elegant rooms house exact copies of ancient Grecian furniture, such as taboret stools and klismos chairs. Admire the mosaic floors and stucco bas-reliefs before enjoying the villa’s sweeping views across the Mediterranean Sea.
For a day at the beach, head to idyllic Plage des Fourmis where you’ll find umbrellas and sun loungers for rent. It’s backed by several restaurants, including Anao Plage, which serves up gourmet seafood dishes and creative cocktails accompanied by waterfront views.
