Set on a glassy bay and surrounded by forested hillsides, Kinsarvik is a charming village perched on the edge of a fjord. Once a base for Norwegian Vikings, today Kinsarvik is known for its historic church and picturesque setting. A handful of cafes and restaurants make Kinsarvik a great place to enjoy lunch.
In the town centre, Kinsarvik Church charms with its simple white façade and grey shingle roof. The Romanesque church dates back to the 12th century and is surrounded by ancient tombstones. Peer inside to see centuries-old murals painted with chalk and lime.
Kinsarvik is a convenient launchpad for hikes in Hardangervidda National Park. Scenic trails take you to windswept plateaus and lush valleys. Monk's Stairway is one of the most popular hikes and winds past four cascading waterfalls. In summer, you can walk down to the shoreline to admire hundreds of cherry and apple trees.
