Things to do in Bømlo
The lively village of Svortland is an ideal base for exploring Bomlo. It’s built around a picturesque lake and offers a wide selection of cosy cafes, restaurants and B&Bs. The coastal village of Mosterhamn is perched on the east coast and is built around a picturesque harbour. Access to hiking trails and cycling routes make it popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Small communities like Rubbestadneset, Lykling and Langevåg are also excellent launchpads for visiting Bomlo.
The tiny island of Espevaer is perched off the coast and can be accessed by a cable ferry. As you pull into the harbour, you’ll get fantastic views of the brightly-painted wooden houses that dot the hillsides. A car-free policy gives the island a laid-back, off-the-grid feel. A scenic hiking trail loops around the island and takes you past the mysterious UFO ring that appeared in the 1970s.
Boats are one of the best ways to explore Bomlo, with most residents owning their own watercraft. Rent a boat from a local tour operator and spend the day cruising along the coastline and visiting offshore islands. Watch for seals basking on the rocks and kestrels soaring overhead.
Getting around Bømlo
Bomlo is located in Vestland county, a one-hour drive from Haugesund and three hours from Bergen. Rental cars are the best way to explore Bomlo at your own pace. Haugesund Airport is a 1.5-hour drive away and Bergen Airport is 2.5 hours north.
