Nestled at the northern tip of the Granvin Fjord, Granvin is a small village in the Norwegian municipality of Voss. It is dominated by the sparkling waters of Granvinsvatnet, which is watched over by traditional farms and snow-capped peaks that provide a setting for hiking in the summer months and snow pursuits in the wintertime.
Things to do in Granvin
Perched on the eastern shore of Granvinsvatnet is the whitewashed Granvin Church, which was constructed in 1726 on the site of a medieval stave church. Coincide your visit with a Sunday service to see the church’s beautiful interior, which can accommodate around 350 worshippers. While strolling through the surrounding cemetery, you’ll be treated to magnificent views across Granvinsvatnet.
A short drive north of Granvin is the Skjervsfossen Waterfall, which tumbles 150 metres along the historic Skjervet driving route. It comprises a twin-drop upper tier that flows beneath the road bridge before cascading down the rocky cliff face below. You can experience the spray of the falls from the roadside pullout or climb the stairs that lead to the overlook.
Also not to miss is the spectacular Espeland Falls, a 99-metre-high waterfall that cascades into the Espeland Valley. It lies on the southern edge of Olsskavlen, the highest point in Granvin, from where you can enjoy 360-degree views across the region. West of Olsskavlen is the rocky summit of Horndalsnuten, which is a popular setting for downhill skiing in the winter months.
