Jounieh is a seaside party town, a beloved destination of Beirut’s young and beautiful. In the daytime, visitors laze on the beach but come nightfall the crowd moves into Jounieh’s range of lively bars and clubs. The ambience is forever summer, where the stable weather conditions enable paragliders to dot the skies year round.
Things to do in Jounieh
Try your luck at Jounieh’s Casino du Liban, one of the largest casinos in the Middle East. Its elegant setting is reminiscent of a set from a James Bond movie, where socialites come to gamble and watch cabaret shows in the casino’s theatre.
The Lebanese Heritage Museum is a relatively new institution, exploring Lebanon’s history from the Phoenician period to the present day. It also has halls covering ethnography, music and literature, making it an ideal place to learn about the country’s rich culture.
The best views of Jounieh are found at the Téléphérique, the cable car linking the town with the Our Lady of Lebanon shrine in nearby Harissa. As the cars climb up to the mountainside, you can look out across the town and the bay.
Getting around Jounieh
In the centre of Jounieh, an ideal way to get around is on foot or by bike, while cycling along the waterfront is a particularly pleasurable experience. Travelling further afield, you have the option of public buses and taxis or travelling on the cable car links to Harissa.
