Things to do in Hazmieh
Stretch your legs on the walking trails that wind through Horsh Beirut, a triangular-shaped park that’s planted with tall pines and flowering trees. It lies adjacent to the Martyr’s Cemetery where those fallen in recent battles are buried and is a short stroll from the National Museum of Beirut. Admire its Egyptian Revival building before exploring the archaeological exhibits that date from prehistoric times to Ottoman rule.
Fancy a game of golf? Spend a day at the prestigious Golf Club of Lebanon, a leafy country club that was established in 1923 and stands as the oldest golf club in the country. In addition to its 18-hole golf course, it also boasts several tennis courts, a squash court and a swimming pool, as well as a children’s playground to keep young guests entertained.
If you’re visiting in the summer months, cool off with the family at the Waves Aqua Park with its waterslides, lazy river and wave pool. Encompassing 60,000 square metres, it’s one of the biggest aqua parks in the Middle East and features plenty of fast-food eateries and restaurants where you can refuel throughout the day.
Getting around Hazmieh
Hazmieh is around 10 minutes’ drive from the centre of Beirut and 15 minutes from Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport. Buses and shared taxis are the main means of getting around the hilly streets of Hazmieh, with private taxis and ride-share services also available.
