Forming part of the Golden Corridor, Elk Grove Village is a leafy residential area in Chicago’s north-west. It lies adjacent to O’Hare International Airport, one of Chicago’s major aviation hubs, and is on the edge of a remnant flatwoods forest that serves as a recreational hub.
Travelling with kids? Don’t miss a visit to the Pirates’ Cove Children’s Theme Park, which is packed with rides and water features designed to encourage imaginative play. They can sail the seven seas aboard Pete’s Pirate Ship or pedal around on the Barnacle Bay Boats before enjoying a ride on the Captain's Carousel.
Sprawling north of Elk Grove Village is the Ned Brown Forest Preserve, which preserves a fragment of the flatwoods that once occupied the Great Lakes region. You can admire the red maples, swamp white oaks and black ash trees along one of the paved bicycle trails or stroll along the shores of Busse Lake, where Canada geese come to rest.
Getting there
Elk Grove Village is around 45 minutes’ drive from the centre of Chicago and just 15 minutes from O'Hare International Airport. Buses are the main means of getting to Elk Grove Village and also travel throughout the area.
