El Segundo is a sunny California town located on Santa Monica Bay in Los Angeles County. This oceanfront municipality is an equally charming residential area and thriving industrial district boasting some of the largest aerospace companies in the world, most notably Boeing and Raytheon. El Segundo also contains the important Los Angeles Air Force Base and Space and Missile Systems Centre.
This ocean-centric area is known for Dockweiler State Beach, the only RV park beach in the state. Popular activities in the town include touring the Automobile Driving Museum, playing golf at The Lakes Golf Course, and checking out the cultural landmark Old Town Music Hall. There are many local dining and shopping areas as well, most prominently The Point.
The Metro Green line of the Los Angeles metro system provides access into the city of El Segundo at two points, the Mariposa/Nash and El Segundo/Nash stations. The San Diego Freeway and El Segundo Freeway incorporate a developed roadway network, and multiple municipal bus lines run limited routes through the area. Cars are the most popular form of transportation in addition to biking and walking.
The town of El Segundo is named as a result of the area’s development around the second Standard Oil refinery on the west coast in the early 1900s, El Segundo meaning “the second” in Spanish.
