Located on the north-west coast of Corfu, Arillas is a peaceful resort that retains the authentic character of a Greek island village. It’s home to family-run tavernas and independent stores, all of which overlook an idyllic stretch of golden sand. Arillas offers easy access to the blissful beaches of St. Stefanos and St. George, as well as the traditional villages and monasteries that lie inland.
Things to do in Arillas
Spend your days relaxing on Paralia Arillas, a long stretch of golden sand where you can swim and sunbathe during the warmer months. It’s dotted with beach umbrellas and sun loungers for rent and features a long pier extending into the water. Backing the beach are a handful of bars and restaurants serving traditional Greek fare, freshly squeezed juices and cocktails.
A short drive from Arillas is Cape Kefali, a rugged promontory that extends into the Ionian Sea. There are superb views across the coastline from its clifftop walking trail, which is particularly majestic at sunset. Nearby is the harbour of Agios Stefanos, from where ferries connect to the enchanting island of Mathraki.
Nestled just inland from Arillas is the Pantokrator Monastery, which centres around a church dedicated to Agios Athanasios. Dating back to the 16th century, it houses a replica icon of the Virgin Mary from Mount Athos and a beautifully painted ceiling. During your visit, you can chat with the nuns who reside at the monastery and sample their homemade sweets.
Getting around Arillas
Arillas is around an hour’s drive from Corfu Town and Corfu International Airport, which has seasonal flights to destinations across Europe. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting to Arillas and exploring the surrounding region. The resort area is small enough to explore on foot.
