Positioned at the western end of the Champs-Élysées, Arc De Triomphe is a world-famous monument honouring those who fought and died in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. Up close, you can see a list of all of France’s victories and the respective generals, while underneath sits the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.
The Arc De Triomphe is also an impressive sight from afar, standing at 50 metres tall and 45 metres wide. There are intricate carvings all across its surface, which depict numerous important moments in France’s rich war history. These sculptures date back as far as the late-1700s.
After you visit the Arc De Triomphe, stroll along the Champs-Élysées to admire the magnificent buildings, most of which house expensive apartments and high-street fashion retailers. You can easily combine the Arc De Triomphe with a show at Lido de Paris.
Getting there
The Arc De Triomphe is best reached by walking about 450 metres from the Kleber subway station or 550 metres from the Ternes subway station. For a truly unforgettable experience, brave the hectic traffic and drive around the famous roundabout encircling the archway.
