Located at the westernmost tip of Walcheren, Westkapelle is a coastal town in the Netherlands’ south-west. During World War II, a dyke on the edge of town was bombed by the British to flood the occupying Nazis and it was here that Allied troops made their amphibious landing during the Battle of the Scheldt.

Just inland is Westkapelle Creek, which can be explored along a waterfront walking trail.
For the best views in Westkapelle, climb to the top of the Lighthouse High Light, which was originally built as a brick church tower in 1432. After the church burned down in 1831, the church spire was replaced with a lantern to help guide ships along the coastline. Inside the tower is a small museum dedicated to Zeeland and its natural environment.
