Walt Disney World Florida was created following the success of Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The well-developed network of roads in Orlando, plus construction of the Interstate 4 encouraged Disney executives to purchase several plots of land over the coming years. The land purchases had to be executed surreptitiously to fend off speculation by potential competitors. The ambitious project was announced in 1965, and two years later construction of Walt Disney World began. Today, millions of people arrive in Florida to attempt to capture the Disney magic, enjoy the theme parks and fulfil all their childhood fantasies.
