Occupying a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Halifax River Lagoon, Daytona Beach Shores is a bustling waterfront city in Florida’s Volusia County. It was organised as a community in 1960 and was heavily developed in the successive decades, with high-rise condominiums now lining its streets. Daytona Beach Shores is a popular getaway destination with an abundance of family-friendly attractions.
Things to do in Daytona Beach Shores
One of Daytona Beach Shores’ most popular attractions is the Congo River Golf, an award-winning miniature golf course designed around a jungle theme. Putt your way between the cascading waterfalls, lush plantings and caves, then experience one of the dramatic alligator feedings. The score sheet incorporates a scavenger hunt and there are several arcade games if the weather turns bad.
Travelling with kids? They can let loose on the children’s playground of Frank Rendon Park, a beachside recreational space dotted with picnic tables and barbecues. It is named after a long-time community leader and boasts a wooden observation deck that offers magnificent views across the Atlantic Ocean. The adjacent beach is patrolled by lifeguards and great for swimming.
Stretching into the water is the Sunglow Fishing Pier, which has been attracting anglers since 1960. Cast a fishing line to see what’s biting, with whiting, flounder and Spanish mackerel all caught here. In addition to its bait shack, fish cleaning stations and benches, the pier is also home to the seafood-focused restaurant of Crabby Joe’s Deck and Grill.
