Things to do in Vennesla
Travel back in time and ride the Setesdal Railway. The section between Grovane and Royknes has been reimagined as a heritage railway and treats you to beautiful views over the countryside and lake. Riding in the 100-year-old teak carriages and watching steam unfurl from the smokebox is a unique experience.
Scenic trails wind through the Skråstadvarden Nature Reserve. Some trails take you to sun-dappled meadows and others lead to hidden caves. The 1.5-hour hike to the Den Omvendte Båt observation deck is worth the effort. From the top of the enormous boulder, you’ll unlock sweeping views over Kristiansand. Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch at the summit before heading back down.
The Tømmerrenna timber gutter stretches for four kilometres and is one of the longest in Norway. It was used to transport timber to the river and has been reimagined as a unique nature trail. Follow the wooden structure through the forest and stop for lunch at one of the scenic picnic areas. A series of bridges and tunnels bring a sense of adventure to the hike.
Getting around Vennesla
Vennesla is compact and easy to get around on foot, while rental cars offer the freedom to explore Agder County at your own pace. Trains run between Vennesla and Kristiansand in 40 minutes. Kristiansand Airport is a 20-minute drive away.
