Surrounded by glacier-carved mountains, Torridon is nestled in one of the most beautiful valleys in the United Kingdom. The village is set on cobalt-blue Loch Torridon and is a great base for exploring the surrounding landscapes, which range from rugged cliffs and gorges to lush woodlands.
Scenic walking paths wind through the countryside, including the breathtaking trail up Liathach mountain. At more than 1,000 metres above sea level, you’ll enjoy panoramic views over the Northwest Highlands. The 11-kilometre trail from Lower Diabaig to Redpoint is scenic and not too strenuous. After a long day of hiking, settle into a tavern for haggis, oatcakes and a glass of single malt whisky.
It’s worth driving 15 minutes west to Shieldaig, a postcard-perfect village set on the banks of Loch Torridon. Whitewashed houses dot the shoreline and house cosy cafes and B&Bs. Stroll through the charming village and enjoy lunch on a sunny terrace overlooking the loch.
