Forming part of Florida’s Nature Coast region, Spring Hill is a sprawling town north of Tampa that was founded in 1967 as a planned community. It lies on the doorstep of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, which is famed for its natural springs and theatre where “mermaids” have been performing for decades.
Things to do in Spring Hill
Keen golfers can enjoy a round on the 18-hole course of the Silverthorn Country Club, which was designed by the nationally recognised golf architect, Joe Lee. Alternatively, head to the Oak Hills Golf Club for a day on the greens or take advantage of the on-site driving range. On the northern edge of Spring Hill is the High Point Golf Club with its 18-hole course that opened to players in 1973.
Want to stretch your legs? Follow one of the leafy walking trails that wind through Delta Woods Park, a popular neighbourhood green space in Spring Hill. It also boasts a variety of sporting facilities that include a soccer field, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a children’s playground and a bocce court.
On the western edge of Spring Hill is Lakewood Plaza, where you’ll find department stores and supermarkets for stocking up on supplies. There are also plenty of places where you can grab a bite to eat, including Hong Kong Chinese, Rocco’s Pizza and Gators Dockside. Alternatively, you can get your retail fix at Mariner Commons, which offers appliance, clothing and automotive stores in the heart of Spring Hill.
Getting around Spring Hill
Spring Hill is around an hour’s drive from Tampa and Tampa International Airport, which has flights to destinations across North America and Europe. Buses connect to Spring Hill, although renting a car will give you greater freedom to explore the region.
