If you’d rather stay dry, there’s plenty of fun to be had at Southport Pleasureland, a traditional seaside funfair opposite Southport Pier. Ride the dodgems, brave the roller coasters and indulge in some classic fish n’ chips.
Relax on the golden shores of Formby Beach, home to Southport’s spectacular undulating dunes and stunning views of the Irish Sea. For an active adventure, walk or cycle along the 35-kilometre Sefton Coastal Path, which winds its way along the shoreline through the Formby Woodlands and coastal marshes.
Get your cultural fix at the Atkinson, Southport’s heart of history, culture and music. Visit the Land & Sea Museum to see a fascinating display of shipwrecks found along the Sefton Coast. You can also journey back in time to see the Pharaohs at the permanent Discover Ancient Egypt exhibit, home to a rare collection of Egyptian artefacts kept secret for over 40 years.
Getting around Southport
Southport is connected to most major cities in the United Kingdom by rail, coach and ferry. It's also a 45-minute drive from Liverpool and just over an hour’s drive from Manchester. Liverpool John Lennon Airport is reached via the M57 and public transport. Once in Southport, the best way to explore is on foot.
