Skudeneshavn is a picturesque town protected under Norway’s Cultural Heritage Act. Perched on the southern tip of Karmøy, it’s brimming with old-world charm. The waterfront is lined with centuries-old wooden houses, while white facades and red roofs give the buildings a postcard-perfect aesthetic.
In the town centre, you’ll find narrow streets lined with cosy cafes and colourful flower baskets. The Skudeneshavn Heritage Trail takes you past some of the town’s best-preserved buildings. Theatrical walking tours bring the town to life with costumed guides and lots of information on historical figures. Skudeneshavn Museum charts the rich history of the town and features exhibits on the booming herring fishing industry.
There are great hiking trails to explore around Skudeneshavn, including the scenic coastal path to Syre. Stroll around the picturesque harbour and swim at the sheltered cove. The four-kilometre trail to Syreneset Fort takes you through forests, fields and along rocky beaches.
Getting there
Skudeneshavn is located at the southern end of Karmøy, a 20-minute drive from Kopervik and 40 minutes from Haugesund. The town is compact and easy to get around on foot, while rental cars offer the freedom to explore the island at your own pace. Bergen Airport is a four-hour drive away.
