About Ålgård

Home to the Kongeparken amusement park, Ålgård is a picturesque town in south-west Norway where the Edlandsvatnet lake empties into the Figgjoelva river. It has a rich history of textile manufacturing and several beautiful old factory buildings to explore, while it also showcases its sheep farming heritage at the Limagarden open-air museum.

Stroll through the centre of Ålgård while learning about its historical associations with De Forenede Ullvarefabrikker, an association of Norwegian textile factories that made wool-spinning machines available to local farmers. Admire the former storehouse where the town administration is now housed and the over 100-year-old Veveriet factory home to Ålgård’s library.

You can learn more about the region’s industrial, agricultural and cultural history at the Limagarden, an old farm clustered with buildings dating back to the early 19th century. Inside the buildings, you’ll find agricultural tools and artefacts that detail life in Ålgård, as well as the region’s sheep farming heritage. The open-air museum offers beautiful views across Limavatnet lake.
