Things to do in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Whether you want to experience buzzing beaches and nightlife or explore rugged, volcanic terrain, the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is one of Europe’s most beloved holiday destinations.
Sightsee in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Serving as a gateway to the archipelago, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is also the province’s most populous city. It’s home to beautifully preserved colonial landmarks that include the soaring bell tower of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and the 18th-century Palacio de Carta. Occupying a Neoclassical-style former hospital is the Museum of Nature and Man, which houses a fascinating collection of archaeological findings from the Pre-Hispanic period.
Explore Teide National Park. Centred around the 3,718-metre-high summit of Mount Teide (one of the world’s highest volcanoes), this spectacular national park is the oldest in the Canary Islands. It is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with huge rivers of petrified lava and craters to explore. In addition to scenic drives, there is an abundance of hiking trails to explore, many of which offer panoramic views.
Escape to La Palma. Famed for its rugged terrain and volcanic craters, La Palma feels a world away from bustling Tenerife. You can wander through the cobblestone streets of the capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma, before hiking to waterfalls in Caldera de Taburiente National Park. Marking the island’s highest point is the Roque de Los Muchachos, with its observatory one of the best places for stargazing in the Northern Hemisphere.
