Things to do in Portsmouth
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is home to some of the most important collections of warships in the world. Visit the dockyard and climb aboard the HMS Victory to experience life on board. Head to Captain Hardy’s cabin to see his working space, before exploring the vessel’s galley.
The Mary Rose Museum also sits in the dockyard and is dedicated to the 16th-century ship, Mary Rose. Inside the museum, you’ll find the ship sitting in the grand hall and artifacts spread out on display, with exhibits giving insight into what life was like for sailors on board.
On your way down to Eastney Beach, make sure you walk through Southsea Rose Gardens. These manicured gardens provide a picturesque setting for an afternoon stroll. Head through the arched gate and you’ll be able to see the English Channel just a stone's throw away.
Looking for adventure? Take a two-hour ferry over to the Isle of Wight located in the English Channel. The island has a beautiful coastline with rolling beaches and is home to Robin Hill Country Park, Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House.
Getting around Portsmouth
Southampton Airport is under an hour’s drive north-west of the city, while Gatwick Airport is two hours away. Make use of Portsmouth’s public buses, taxis and cycle paths to explore the city.
