Located just a stone’s throw from the Somerset coastline, Porlock is a charming village on the northern edge of Exmoor National Park. It’s traversed by the long-distance South West Coast Path, which passes by the smallest parish church in England, St Bueno’s Church, as it continues west to Lynton.
Stroll along the High Street to admire Porlock’s charming buildings, several of which are occupied by the local butcher, cheesemonger and handicraft stores. You can indulge in traditional scones at one of the many tea rooms and cafes or grab a pint at The Castle or The Ship Inn.
Adjacent to the village is the Porlock Ridge and Saltmarsh Nature Reserve, which is considered a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its coastal geomorphological features. For sweeping views across the surrounding moors, head to the Porlock Stone Circle, which consists of 13 sandstone rocks believed to date back to the Bronze Age.
Getting there
Porlock is around 10 minutes’ drive from Minehead and just over an hour from Exeter Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe. Buses connect to Porlock and the village centre is small enough to explore on foot.
