Osecina is a small town nestled in the Serbian countryside and surrounded by rolling green fields and fruit orchards. The town is a great base to explore the picturesque Kolubara District. The Gradac River flows through the region and has carved out a series of canyons and valleys. It’s a great place to walk, enjoy picnics and spend time in nature. You’ll find more challenging hikes in Povlen, a mountainous region just south of Osecina.
The Ljubovide Canyon is another beautiful hiking destination. Follow trails through the verdant forests to an ancient stone bridge. The arched bridge spans across the Ljubovide River and was used by Roman traders.
Try local dishes like “punjene paprike” peppers stuffed with meat and cheese, “sarma” cabbage leaf rolls and “ajvar” relish made from eggplant and red bell peppers. “Cevapcici” grilled sausages seasoned with garlic, cayenne and black pepper are guaranteed to satisfy your appetite. Finish your meal with a glass of locally made plum brandy.
