Zdrelo is a picturesque village surrounded by the rugged Homil Mountains. Beautiful scenery and bubbling geothermal springs make it one of the most popular holiday destinations in Serbia. Gornjak Monastery dates to the 14th century and is nestled in a scenic gorge, with verdant cliffs that surround the Serbian Orthodox monastery giving it an enchanted feel. Walk around the centuries-old complex and admire the flower-filled gardens.
The hiking around Zdrelo is spectacular and the village is a perfect base to explore the Homil Mountains. The hike to Veliki Vukan and Mali Vukan starts at Zdrelo Monastery and takes you more than 800 metres above sea level. The views are epic and stretch across the surrounding peaks.
After a long hike, soothe your muscles with a thermal bath. The largest complexes feature indoor and outdoor pools fed by mineral-rich hot springs. You can also treat yourself to massages, saunas and specialised hydrotherapy treatments.
Getting there
Zdrelo is in the municipality of Petrovac na Mlavi, a two-hour drive from Belgrade. The village is compact and easy to get around on foot, though you’ll need a car to visit nearby sights and attractions. Belgrade Airport is a two-hour drive away.
