Backed by rugged peaks on the slopes of Maljen, Divčibare is a mountain resort and ski destination south of Belgrade. It boasts around 280 sunny days a year and is surrounded by picturesque meadows that provide a setting for hiking, cycling and waterfall viewing.
Things to do in Divčibare
You can stretch your legs along the Bitter Karst Trail, which offers magnificent views across the Black River Canyon, or explore one of the cycling trails that wind through Divčibare’s scenic surroundings. In the winter months, the Divčibare Ski Resort is the place to be, with most of its trails suited to experienced skiers and illuminated after dark. Beginners can take advantage of the gentler slopes near the summit of Stražara mountain.
A short drive north of Divčibare is the Skakalo Waterfall, which plunges 30 metres along the Manastirica River. A challenging hiking trail leads to the rocky base of the cascade, which is particularly spectacular in the spring. Alternatively, head west to Taorska Vrela, considered one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Serbia.
Divčibare provides a base for visiting the surrounding monasteries, including the 13th-century Ćelije Monastery, which has been designated as a Monument of Culture of Great Importance. Also nearby is Jovanja, a 15th-century monastery overlooking the Jablanica River that houses frescoes dating back to the 17th century. For something more modern, Lelic Monastery was built in the early 20th century and houses a museum dedicated to one of the most influential bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
