Things to do in Nuriootpa
Stroll down Nuriootpa’s main street to admire its historic buildings, many of which are now occupied by boutique stores and cafes. Grab a coffee at Fleur Social or something sweet from Linke’s Bakery before walking it off in Nuriootpa Linear Park. Craft spirits infused with botanicals are on offer at the Barossa Distilling Company while the Penfolds Cellar Door showcases its famous wines.
Nuriootpa serves as a base for scenic drives through the Barossa Valley, with the opportunity to stop at local wineries along the way. Explore the Wolf Blass Visitor Centre or Hentley Farm, which offers degustation menus within a 19th-century farmhouse. At the Barossa Farmers Market, you can chat with local growers and producers or pick up ready-to-eat foods.
From Nuriootpa, it’s easy to explore some of the other historic towns that dot the Barossa Valley, such as Tanunda, which was settled by Prussian immigrants in 1842. Sample red and white wines straight from the barrel at Château Tanunda before discovering the seasonally-inspired menu at the Harvest Kitchen. South-east of Nuriootpa is Angaston, home to a historic railway museum and the Barossa Valley Cheese Company.
Getting around Nuriootpa
Nuriootpa is around an hour’s drive from Adelaide and Adelaide Airport, which has flights to destinations across the globe. Long-distance buses connect to Nuriootpa and the town centre is compact enough to explore on foot. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting around the Barossa Valley.
