A northern suburb of Adelaide, Elizabeth rests in the City of Playford and serves as a commercial centre for outlying northern neighbourhoods. It’s a 40-minute drive from Adelaide and provides plenty of activities, such as local parks, theatre, sports and shopping.
Things to do in Elizabeth
The Elizabeth Shopping Centre serves as the main gathering and entertainment hub of this growing suburb, housing multifunctional department stores, smaller boutiques and more than 200 specialty shops. You can spend time in the centre’s Entertainment Precinct with a mainstream cinema and Tunza Fun arcade for kids, featuring laser tag, miniature golf, dodge cars and a simulator action ride known as XD Extreme Motion Theatre.
Just east of the city centre, Fremont Park on North Main Road offers walking trails, picnic shelters and a rotunda for gathering with friends and fellow travellers. The Ridley Reserve sports complex also has a small park and pond for relaxing before catching a soccer game. The Aquadome gives you a chance to work off some steam in its fitness centre and cool off in a 50-metre public pool with a giant indoor water slide.
In the evening, take in a live theatrical performance at Shedley Theatre, located in Playford Civic Centre. If you arrive early, enjoy a meal and drinks at the Shedley Cafe and Bar. You can also dine at numerous eateries and pubs within Elizabeth Shopping Centre, serving classic Australian fare and international cuisine.
Getting around Elizabeth
Public buses service most of Elizabeth, particularly on main thoroughfares such as Elizabeth Way and North Main Road. Routes also connect to the city centre of Adelaide and to adjacent suburbs. You can get around in private taxis within Elizabeth, or hire a rental car in Adelaide.
