Hugging the border between Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi, Nong Ya Plong is a Thai town and district south-west of Bangkok. It is renowned for its therapeutic hot springs, peaceful forest temples and easy access to the wildlife-filled landscapes of Chaloem Phra Kiat Thai Prachan National Park.
Things to do in Nong Ya Plong
Don’t miss the Nong Ya Plong Hot Spring, which is surrounded by forested mountains in the district’s west. A short walk leads to its main pool, where channels have been dug for visitors to enjoy the water’s therapeutic benefits. Traditional Thai massages are available at the hot spring site and there are several eateries serving local dishes.
Also nearby is the Kra Dang La Waterfall, a picturesque cascade that can be accessed via a seven-kilometre-long hike. It lies near Chaloem Phra Kiat Thai Prachan National Park, a picturesque protected area with trails for both hiking and biking. It provides an important habitat for native wildlife and encompasses a reservoir best explored by kayak.
One of Nong Ya Plong’s most important Buddhist temples is Wat Wang Phu Sai, which is perched on the shores of the Mae Prachan Reservoir. It features a chedi said to contain relics of the Buddha, as well as a building for practising Dharma. Also of note is the peaceful forest temple of Wat Khao Krating and the gilded, seated Buddha of Wat Pu Ta Khian.
Getting around Nong Ya Plong
Nong Ya Plong is around two hours’ drive from Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi International Airport, which has flights to destinations across the globe. Samut Songkhram is around 45 minutes away. Buses connect to Nong Ya Plong, although renting a car is a more convenient way of getting around the area.
