Things to do in Nador
A corniche skirts the shores Mar Chica Lagoon and is a lovely spot for a sunset stroll. Some sections are fringed by lush grass and palm trees, giving the lagoon a Mediterranean feel. The lagoon is a sanctuary for birds, with the chance to spot flamingos grazing in the shallows. On weekends, the corniche is dotted with stands selling grilled chicken, a local favourite.
Nador is surrounded by stunning beaches, some just across the lagoon and others further along the coast. Charrana Beach is one of the most beautiful in Morocco, with rugged cliffs framing the gold sand and turquoise water. Bask in the North African sunshine and snorkel around the rocky shoreline.
Stores selling colourful fabrics, spices and jewellery line the laneways of Souk Oulad Mimoun. The market is divided into different sections, some dedicated to clothing and others brimming with fresh fruit and vegetables. It’s a great place to stock up on souvenirs.
A scenic coastal road connects Nador with the city of Al Hoceima. The scenery is spectacular, with the road taking you past rugged sandstone cliffs, lush gorges and rolling hills. Stop to stretch your legs and enjoy a glass of refreshing mint tea at one of the clifftop cafes.
Getting around Nador
Taxis are a fast and affordable way to get around Nador. The city is located in the Rif region of Morocco, a four-hour drive from Fes and six hours by train. Melilla Airport is a 30-minute drive away. Ferries run between Nador and Spain in eight hours.
